Original Medicare
Original Medicare is federal health insurance plan that has two parts: Part A (Inpatient Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance), which covers some services such as doctor visits, lab tests, medical equipment, and some home healthcare. Part A does not require a monthly premium payment, but Part B does have a monthly premium that can fluctuate yearly. Original Medicare pays for much, but not all, of the cost for covered health care services and supplies. For example, Original Medicare does not cover:
- Long-Term Care
- Most dental care
- Eye exams related to prescribing glasses
- Dentures
- Cosmetic surgery
- Acupuncture
- Hearing aids and exams for fitting them
- Routine foot care
Fortunately, there are many insurance plans, such as Medicare Supplement plans and Medicare Advantage plans, available to cover the “gap” in the coverage offered by Original Medicare.
